ABOUT
The Cotswold Sinfonietta is a friendly & versatile amateur chamber orchestra that is based in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
We rehearse at 2.30pm - 5pm on Sunday afternoons for about six to eight weeks prior to our spring and autumn concerts.
REHEARSAL VENUE:
Ashcroft Church
21, Ashcroft Road, Cirencester
Gloucestershire, GL7 1RA
THE ORCHESTRA:
Previously known as Cirencester Philharmonia, the orchestra changed its name to the Cotswold Sinfonietta in the Spring of 2022, in order to help to attract players from a wider area from around the Cotswolds.
Having only two performances per year enables us to be popular with musicians who want to play in an orchestra, but not necessarily throughout the year. Our orchestral repertoire is challenging and varied, but mainly classical, from the point of view of period and scoring. Most of the music that we perform is chosen carefully to attract both players and audiences alike, and is usually chosen from the chamber orchestra repertoire.
Our players come from Cirencester and Cheltenham, plus the surrounding Cotswold areas and are of approximately grade 7 plus standard. However, we are also extremely fortunate to have some professional musicians among us from whom we learn, which helps a great deal to enable us to keep our performance standards high.
We always welcome new members and particularly strings. However, all orchestral instruments are welcome to apply as there are often opportunities that arise. Please visit the 'Join Us' Page.
VACANCIES:
We currently have vacancies for rank and file Violins, violas, cellos, & Double Bass.
We have occasional vacancies in the woodwind and brass sections. If interested, please contact the Orchestra Manager, who will be pleased to add your name to a waiting list.
