As a noted freelance Cheltenham based conductor, composer organist and teacher, the orchestra's Conductor & Musical Director, Ian Higginson, has performed as a conductor and organist in concert halls, Cathedrals and Churches around Great Britain, America and Europe.
COMPOSER
As a composer, Ian has a large volume of music published both in the UK and the USA, which has attracted many excellent national reviews, some of which appears on various examination board syllabi. Ian has received choral commissions including: Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra, in addition to many church and cathedral choirs, the International Cheltenham Music Festival and choirs in Jersey and the USA. Some of his many Christmas carol arrangements have been performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, plus the the Royal Northern Sinfonia in their Christmas concerts. Many of Ian's vocal and instrumental compositions have also been chosen as set pieces for various examination boards. Ian's music publishers include: Animus Publishing, ABRSM Publishing, Boosey & Hawkes, Lorenz (US), Parish Publications, St. James Music Press (US), Trinity Publishing, plus the Royal School of Church Music.
In 2006, Ian received an award from Cheltenham Arts Council in recognition of his work with choirs in the Cheltenham area.

Ian has been Organist & Assistant Director of Music for the Cathedral Singers of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford, and until recently he was Organist and Director of Music for the University of Gloucestershire.
Ian is also sometimes available for recitals, choral, vocal and instrumental accompaniment.

TEACHING
Music tutor in Piano and Organ at St Edward’s School, Cheltenham, Sir William Romney's School Tetbury and is Assistant Professor of Sacred Music and Composition at the Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi University, USA, where he is currently teaching composition on the Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral courses. Ian also teaches composition for the Victoria College of Music, where he is also vocal advisor.
Ian offers private lessons (from beginner to advanced) in voice training (classical, Musical Theatre & Popular Vocals) – organ – piano – composition – conducting – music theory and aural training.
